Création Baumann: curtain, sheer and acoustic textiles

Création Baumann was founded in Langenthal, Switzerland in 1886 and weaves in a mill the company owns.

They are usually described as a curtain manufacturer. The more useful description is functional textile: cloth engineered to do a specific job at a window or in a room, where the pattern is a consequence of the construction rather than the point of it.

Three of those jobs recur. Sound, where the weave is built to absorb rather than reflect, and the absorption is tested and published. Light, where the construction sets how much passes through and how much is diffused. And solar, where the cloth turns heat and glare without closing the room down. Those are three separate problems and the same brand answers all of them, which is unusual.

They also make what holds the cloth. Track, roller, pleated, panel and vertical systems come from the same company as the fabric, which matters on a project where the specification has to work as an assembly rather than as a list of parts.

The acoustic range is the deepest part of it: sound-absorbing textiles, acoustic partition curtains, wall panels and ceiling sails. Création Baumann describe it as the largest selection of sound-absorbing textiles available anywhere. It is why the brand turns up in specifications that began as an acoustic problem rather than a decorative one.
