CRAKGON

Permanently restore damaged walls, ceilings, and exterior substrates with CRAKGON® surface repair tissue, available exclusively through Hume InternationaleManufactured from continuous non-woven fibreglass monofilaments, CRAKGON® acts as a paint-reinforcing membrane that bridges existing hairline cracks, stabilizes moving substrates, and prevents future surface fractures from showing through your finish.

Why Use CRAKGON® for Surface Preparation & Repair?

Flexible fillers and jointing compounds eventually re-crack as building substrates shift with moisture and temperature changes. CRAKGON® creates an invisible, high-tensile structural layer directly embedded within your paint coating. It flexes with minor building movement without tearing, providing an indestructible base for paintwork, textured finishes, and commercial wallcoverings.

Key Performance Benefits of CRAKGON®:

  • Permanent Crack Elimination: Completely bridges hairline cracks and prevents stress fractures from telegraphing through decorative topcoats.
  •  Weather & Water Resistant: UV-stable and suitable for internal plasterboard as well as external rendered masonry and concrete.
  •  Substrate Stabilization: Minimizes timber warping, grain lifting, and joint movement under painted finishes.
  •  Fire-Resistant & Non-Toxic: Safe for indoor residential and commercial environments without hazardous fumes.
  •  Extends Paint Service Life: Holds a heavy film of paint within its matrix, protecting topcoats from moisture damage and erosion.

Suitable Substrates & Applications

CRAKGON® is an ideal substrate stabilization system for both residential restorations and commercial developments:

  • Internal Plasterboard & Ceilings: Stabilizes moving ceiling joints and persistent hairline cracking.
  • Render, Concrete & Masonry: Reinforces external rendered facades and internal masonry walls.
  • Plywood, MDF & Timber Panels: Prevents grain lifting and panel movement from cracking topcoats.
  • Under Decorator Coverings: Acts as an ultra-tough stabilizing base prior to hanging commercial or luxury wallcoverings.

CRAKGON® Application Sequence

For a fast, plumb, and seamless installation, follow the correct pinning and roll-through application method:

  1. Surface Prep: Ensure the wall surface is clean, dry, and free from dust or loose debris.
  2. Apply Top Anchor Strip: Roll a horizontal band of paint across the top of the wall where the top of the CRAKGON® sheet will sit.
  3. Pin the Sheet: Press the top edge of the dry CRAKGON® sheet firmly into the wet paint band to pin it in place, allowing the rest of the sheet to hang naturally plumb down the wall.
  4. Roll Paint Through: Roll paint directly through the face of the dry hanging sheet, working from top to bottom. The paint will penetrate through the fibreglass matrix, fully impregnating the tissue and bonding it directly to the wall beneath.
  5. Finish & Topcoat: Ensure the matrix is fully saturated. Once the embedded layer is dry, apply your final decorative paint or topcoat.
