Felt 2mm

Felt 2mm is pure wool, matted into a sheet rather than woven. With no weave and no backing it is one material all the way through, and the same cloth goes on a wall or over a seat. It reads as dense, matt colour, in a palette that runs from cream and greys through clear brights to charcoal and ink.

It tests at 100 per cent bio-based content under ASTM D6866 and is a USDA Certified Biobased Product. Wool is carbon that came out of a plant by way of an animal, and there is nothing else in this cloth, so the figure is the whole of it rather than a share of a blend.

On a wall it is hung with a heavy duty clear adhesive rolled onto the wall, never onto the felt, and the drops are butted. It needs at least 72 hours on site before hanging, and ideally a week, or it can shrink and open at the seams. Adhered flat it is not an acoustic treatment: as a wallcovering it rates NRC 0.05.

On a seat it is rated to 100,000 Martindale cycles. It is 178cm wide and cleans with solvent-based cleaners. Fire performance is ASTM E84 Adhered Class A on walls and CA TB 117-2013 on upholstery.
