Terry Clark, banana bending believer in your walls
Revolution and reinvention are woven into the fabric of human existence. It’s happening all the time, from world politics to bubblegum pop. The Monkees were superseded by The New Monkees. The Seekers combusted and out of their ashes rose The New Seekers. Hi-5 swapped out their whole ensemble but the beat still went on for kids everywhere. We even saw new pop dynasties emerge after we lost integral members of AC/DC, INXS and Nirvana. Constant change sweeps over the music scene but we all keep looking for the perfect song. That’s the way it is with pop music – and that’s the way it is with our number one passion… WALLPAPER.
Terry Clark, industry legend and Hume Internationale’s Queensland Agent, has seen generations of keen renovators reach for the stars. This passion for new products drives the wallcovering industry to innovative heights, generating fresh advances in the range of materials available for the residential and commercial markets. People are looking for new textures, new colour palettes and new designs.
The industry is definitely on the up, this generation is more discerning and continually looking for the next best thing to come along. Hume Internationale scours the world to ensure it always has the next best thing! – Terry Clark
Terry is an industry veteran who knows everything about the wallcovering industry because he was there when it happened in the North. Terry started with Comdec Wallcoverings (a Division of ICI) when they set up in Queensland in 1967. He learned the industry from the ground up, working with paperhangers, selling in stores, then wholesaling as the business built a 60% market share in the sunshine state. Terry then moved on to manage Clunies Ross Fabric & Wallcoverings in 1976, establishing their flagship label Cottage Prints. He then led the Queensland operation of Ashley Wallcoverings, a New Zealand based company with a solid reputation for quality products. Finally, he decided to set up his own agency business in conjunction with his wife, Karen Cody. The highly respected Cody + Clark Agencies was established in 1993.
Terry and Karen built their relationship with Hume Internationale as Cody + Clark Agencies grew into an operation representing not only the top wallcovering brands from overseas such as Marburg and Rasch, but fabrics from Dedar, Sanderson, Jab and Sahco Hesslein. They even specialised in locally produced furniture. Terry has now closed his wholesale operation and stepped away from other industry associations to focus solely on representing Hume Internationale in the Queensland market. That’s great for us, because it means our customers can tap directly into four decades of industry experience just by giving him a call. You’ll get great advice, a discerning eye and a passion for getting the best out of your walls. Residential or commercial, traditional or modern, subdued or funky – he’s got it covered. You just can’t find that kind of knowledge growing on trees!
When one thinks they have seen everything, the industry invents something new. The advances in surface printing and the addition of varied materials such as glass beads and mica have turned the industry on its head. At Hume, we have amazing flexibility and an eye for innovation – Terry Clark
