Trevira CS: inherently flame-retardant curtain and upholstery fabric

Trevira CS is not a fabric. It is a fibre and a licence.

The flame retardancy sits in the chemistry of the polyester itself. When the fibre is made, an organophosphorus compound is built into the molecule as a co-monomer. Nothing is applied to the surface of the finished cloth. That distinction is the whole of the brand. A surface treatment is a coating, and coatings wear, wash and age. A modification at fibre level cannot, because there is nothing there to remove. A Trevira CS curtain laundered many times over is as flame retardant as the day it was hung.

The name is controlled, and that is what makes it useful. A mill cannot call a cloth Trevira CS because it happens to contain the fibre. The fabric is tested and approved against the trademark before the name goes anywhere near it, and the certificate travels with the cloth. Trevira CS is recognised in specification worldwide for that reason. Write it into a schedule and the fire credential comes with the fabric.
